Like a lot of hotels in this price range, Hotel Eden does a lot of things very well, nice clean rooms, disabled friendly access and a good breakfast menu, but it has one very unique feature, a salt grotto!

For those that don’t know, many people are convinced that salt has healing powers, a trip to a salt mine is often used to treat skin complaints or asthma – the air’s purity is supposed to have beneficial side effects. The salt for the grotto came from three areas, the salt mine in Bochnia, Pakistan and the Dead Sea.

The grotto is great way to relax, the sound of water running down the grotto walls has a definite soothing effect. If anything, it is something children will love, their own secret paradise away from the adults. Hotel Eden also offers more traditional forms of relaxation; hotel guests can have a massage or take advantage of the hotel’s sauna facilities.

From a historical perspective, it’s worth mentioning that Hotel Eden in its pre-renovation state can be seen in the film Schindler’s List, some of the films scenes were shot on ul.Ciemna. The film gives an insight into just how much work was needed in order to restore the building. The owner of the hotel has done a fine job in preserving the architecture of the building when it would have been easier to knock it down and rebuild it from scratch.

The rooms all come equipped with a fridge and satellite TV as standard, guests can watch BBC or CNN as well channels from Germany, France or Italy. Every room has an en-suite private bathroom complete with hairdryer.

Large families or groups can rent adjoining rooms, the door connecting the two rooms can be opened or closed as and when required. Guests who rent the suite will have access to an outside terrace – perfect for the summer.

Eden’s stairways and corridors are a trip through Krakow’s and Kazimierz’s rich recent musical history. It’s clear that the owner is a fan of music, signed posters of artists who have taken part in the Jewish Festival hang on the walls. This, and original artwork in every room, gives the hotel a pleasant homely atmosphere.

Breakfast is a selection of food from cereals, yoghurts, seasonal fruits, jams, cheeses (mozzarella included!), and salmon – there is no meat on the breakfast menu. Evening meals are available if ordered in advance.

Hotel Eden is also the only kosher hotel in Poland, guests who need to eat kosher food can be sure of its kosher nature; the meals have been imported from London complete with a kosher certificate.

For those too tired to wander out to the nearby restaurants or bars, the hotel has its own cellar bar that can be hired for private functions.

In terms of location, Hotel Eden is perfectly situated. Its right in the heart of Kazimierz and close to historical sites, for instance the Old Synagogue is about a thirty second walk from the hotel!
