More of a "trad" Kazimierz venue Absynt has gone for the Krakow 1930s pre-war look, solid wooden tables with lace tablecloths complete with retro seating – but like most of Kazimierz’s bars, the key is in its name.
The bars speciality is, of course, absinthe, the beloved drink of artists such as Picasso and Van Gogh. Empty bottles of the stuff are dotted around the place just in case you forget where you are.
As for the actual absinthe you can buy, there are varieties from Poland, France, Germany, the Czech Republic and the strongest, at 80% proof, from Spain. The absinthe is served using
the Czech or Bohemian style, i.e. flaming.
Absynt does a range of bar snacks such as toasts (for example, tomato and mozzarella topping) or Polish pierogi, it also offers a selection of teas and coffees, or beers and spirits.
If you don’t want to walk home from your last drink,
Momotown Hostel is above the bar.
